bleeding heart

Still playing around with a more painterly look. Lots of smudge and trying different brushes. I think I've still got a ways to go before it feels convincing enough to satisfy me. One advantage to this style is that it's a bit looser and messy and I don't agonise over trying to make it look like a photo. Kind of adds character to a piece too.

Street art form May Lane, St Peters, Sydney

I needed to go by train to work today and parked at my old stomping grounds to get a train (no train in Maroubra).

These are in and around May Lane. None of these pieces are mine, by the way, so if anyone knows who did these drop me a comment and I'll credit the artists.

Pen Sketch

This is kind of a surreal/psychedelic sketch I did when I was bored and killing some time. It's a little different to how I usually do things because I didn't use any references, it's just a bunch of things all thrown together. There are 3 elements that were already on the page before I started drawing what would become the finished piece and I had to work out how to join them so they wouldn't look totally out of place in the end.

I really want to redo this digitally with references where needed so it takes on a more realistic vibe. Probably in color too. We'll see if I get around to it.

Quick Update

Haven't had much time for art due to work commitments so here's a little something I started working on. I started this more as an exercise to keep the chops up but it turned out better than expected. I'll do something with it soon (hopefully). Maybe put a head-dress or helmet on it ... haven't decided yet

Hubcap II

This is a commission for a friend. It's taking some time to finish because I'm using mostly Pigma Micron pens on 300gsm watercolour paper. They don't write very well on paper that's too textured so I'm having to go over the same line more than once. Occasionally I'll get out a fine brush with pigment ink for the thicker lines but I use pens for the finer lines.

I'll probably add some watercolour later, which I can do with pigment ink without smudging the line work.. unlike regular ink...

Another work in progress - no title

Working on this on and off for a while. The stippling is taking a  while so it's probably going to take another week
